Growing up, visiting my father’s workplace was always a fascinating adventure. As a child, I frequently accompanied him to the Sarni Power Plant on rugged Rajdoot motorcycle, marveling at the massive machinery and relishing hearty meals at the plant’s canteen. Those visits weren’t just about seeing where my father spent his days but also about learning the significance of hard work and dedication in powering the nation. Fast forward to 2013, during my Maha Kumbh biking journey, I made a detour to Sirmour Hydro Electric Plant, where my father was then posted. Riding my Bajaj Avenger, I spent a day reliving those cherished moments, this time at a hydroelectric plant, which was a stark contrast to Sarni’s coal-fired operations. The clean environment and serene landscape surrounding the plant were as captivating as the roaring turbines inside.

The Sirmour Hydro Electric Plant left me in awe of its beauty and engineering marvel. Unlike the smokestacks and ash-filled skies I remembered from Sarni, this plant was nestled amidst nature, with towering reservoirs, massive pipelines, and scenic mountain streams. Stepping inside, the plant’s grandeur was evident in the deafening sound of turbines converting water’s force into electricity. Spending the day in my father’s office, watching him meticulously review files and interact with his team, was reminiscent of my childhood memories. Between tasks, we shared tea, snacks, and stories, bridging the gap between past and present. Lunch at the office was a nostalgic experience, transporting me back to those carefree days at Sarni’s canteen.
That day wasn’t just about revisiting old memories; it was a profound reminder of the generational dedication required to build a brighter future. I connected with other employees and explored the plant’s surroundings, gaining a newfound respect for his work and the sheer beauty of hydroelectric power. Spending time with parents at their workplace is a treasure trove of experiences that many overlook—it’s a treasure trove of wisdom and inspiration. I urge the younger generation to embrace such moments with their parents, as it’s their lifelong dedication and hard work that lay the foundation for a stronger next generation and a better country future.
