In 2009, during a period of self-discovery, I embarked on a biking journey across India on my Bajaj Avenger, ultimately reaching my home village of Mohad Kareli in Madhya Pradesh to reconnect with my roots. At that time, the idea of a solo biker traveling such long distances from Delhi was almost unheard of, especially in rural areas. Upon my arrival, the villagers, many of whom had known me since childhood, were astonished by my journey and eager to learn more about the Bajaj Avenger I rode. This heavy cruiser, with its broad tires and unique seating position, stood out among the smaller bikes commonly seen in the village.
The curiosity surrounding my bike extended beyond just the adults; even the children gathered around, fascinated by this different kind of motorcycle. My Nana, too, was intrigued and wanted to experience the feel of riding my Bajaj Avenger. To him, this was not just a motorcycle; it symbolized a new way of living and adventure that transcended the boundaries of our village. While it was gratifying to showcase my bike, I viewed this moment not as a show-off but as an opportunity to broaden perspectives. What might seem ordinary to some can be perceived as extraordinary and exciting to others. This experience bring me closer to similar experience in the movies I watched: be it Motorcycle diary, Easy Rider, or biker documentary series of Long Way Round featuring Star War actor Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman.
As the villagers took turns checking out the bike, it marked the beginning of memorable experiences in the days that followed. The excitement and sense of community made my visit even more special, reminding me of the deep connections we share with our roots. This blend of tradition and modernity opened the door to many heartwarming interactions, as I shared stories of my travels and listened to the tales of my elders. My time in Mohad Kareli not only strengthened my bond with my heritage but also allowed me to reflect on how travel can inspire new ways of thinking, fostering appreciation for the diversity that exists within our cultures.
