In 2009, during my month-long adventure and self-exploration journey across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, I experienced my first-ever night camping in the breathtakingly beautiful valley of Sonmarg. As we journeyed from Srinagar toward Kargil, we discovered this stunning destination, surrounded by lush green meadows, iconic Kashmiri flora, and the serene flow of the Indus River—a picture-perfect location to set up our camp. Nestled near the riverbed, we spent a chilly yet exhilarating night, waking to a vibrant morning filled with energy and enthusiasm to continue our adventure.
The photographs capture the unparalleled beauty of Sonmarg and our night camp, showcasing the rolling hills adorned with Kashmiri deodar and pine trees, expansive green meadows, and the serene chilling flow of the Indus River.
