In 2009, during my month-long adventure through Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, I finally reached Leh after a challenging yet memorable journey. Accompanied by Travelguru’s colleague Dhole Sir and his friends, we made a brief overnight stop at the PWD rest house in Bodhkharboo before arriving at Leh, our second major planned stay after the iconic houseboat in Srinagar’s Dal Lake. Our accommodation in Leh was a cozy homestay, perfectly suited for travelers like us. This gem, recommended through our Travelguru site, offered not just great hospitality but also the convenience of an open kitchen for breakfast preparations. With delicious home-cooked meals and a warm atmosphere, it was the perfect retreat after our adventurous journey.
We dedicated our first day in Leh to exploring its vibrant cityscape, rich with hidden treasures and cultural heritage. From ancient palaces and castles to traditional crafts, the city offered an enchanting blend of history and artistry. The view of Leh from its old palace was breathtaking, and strolling through its streets filled with vendors and artisans felt like stepping into a living museum. Despite the excitement, the high-altitude air demanded a slow and steady pace, allowing us to soak in the beauty and culture at leisure. The day was filled with unforgettable moments, including a hearty lunch and the delightful experience of sipping high tea while overlooking the rugged landscape.
After days of relentless adventure, our time in Leh was a welcome respite. That night, we indulged in a sumptuous dinner and enjoyed the comfort of our homestay, basking in the warmth of its hospitality. The cozy ambiance and peaceful surroundings ensured a restful sleep, leaving us refreshed for the explorations that awaited in the days to come. Leh, with its mix of tradition, culture, and natural beauty, left an indelible mark on my journey of self-discovery and adventure.
