Sometimes, even the most meticulously planned experiences take unexpected and frustrating turns. It was December 2016, and our spirits were high as we embarked on a 10-day road trip to Rajasthan, culminating in a grand New Year celebration in Udaipur. We had planned every detail to perfection, reserving a room at Hotel Rajdarshan near Hathipole through Goibibo.com for 2016 December 31st, the highlight of our trip. The journey through Rajasthan and Mount Abu was magical, filled with new discoveries and unforgettable moments. But little did we know that the carefully planned day we looked forward to the most would become a regret etched in our memories.
Shocking Demand at Hotel Rajdarshan
On the morning of December 31st, we arrived at Hotel Rajdarshan, right on time for check-in, excited to settle in. However, as we reached the reception, we were blindsided by an unexpected demand: the hotel insisted we pay an additional ₹4000-₹5000 per person for a mandatory Gala Night event. Shocked and dismayed, we explained that our booking, already a significant expense, made no mention of this condition. Moreover, we had no intention of attending the event and had alternate plans for New Year’s Eve.
Despite numerous calls to Goibibo customer care, we received no resolution. They cited hotel policies, leaving us stranded without support. The hotel’s management refused any exceptions or compromises, coldly demanding that we either pay the exorbitant fee (extortion fee) or vacate the premises. It was an infuriating ordeal that left us feeling helpless, especially in an unfamiliar city amidst the demonetization crisis.”To me, this feels like a massive blow. A New Year Celebration Ruined, A Lesson Learned
Heartbroken and out of options, we left the hotel and scrambled to find a homestay at the last minute. The celebration we had envisioned was reduced to roaming around Udaipur that night, salvaging what we could of the evening. The bitter experience taught me to avoid booking hotels online during peak seasons and future holiday trips. Back in Gurgaon, I considered legal action against Goibibo and Hotel Rajdarshan udaipur, only to realize the futility of pursuing it across jurisdictions. Therefore, I chose to rate the website on platforms like TripAdvisor and Google Reviews with negative ratings, detailing my full experience. To my disappointment, these platforms chose not to make my reviews public.
