Maha Kumbh 2013: Biking to the World’s Largest Spiritual Gathering at Sangam

In 2013, I embarked on an unforgettable bike journey to the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, a once-in-12-years spiritual gathering at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Riding my trusted Bajaj Avenger, I covered 700 km from Gurgaon, stopping briefly in Noida and Kanpur before reaching Prayagraj. The sight of illuminated pandals, bustling crowds, and the spiritual energy of millions of devotees was awe-inspiring. On Maha Shivratri, I experienced the sacred Amrit Snan (Sahi Snan, Holy bath) at Triveni Sangam, praying for blessings and witnessing the sun rise over sparkling waters—a moment of profound spirituality. The diversity of devotees from across India and beyond showcased the unity and grandeur of Sanatan culture, though the event’s poor sanitation highlighted areas needing improvement. Despite challenges, the Maha Kumbh remains one of the most transformative and cherished experiences of my life.
