Memories of the BackPost: NIT Rourkela, Year 2006

BackPost NIT Rourkela 2006

NIT Rourkela would be incomplete without mentioning the BackPost near Hall 5, a place that holds deep significance for the boys’ hostel residents, especially from 2nd to 4th year. It was where (2002-2006) we spent countless hours—discussing, Ragging, planning, dreaming, and exchanging ideas. This spot became a hub of conversation, where we talked about everything, from politics and education to college life and future plans. In a time before mobile phones dominated our lives, the BackPost was where real conversations happened, where ideas were exchanged, and friendships were strengthened.

Though the amenities at the BackPost were modest—simple huts, Raju and his family shop, Singda (samosa) / vada stall, phone booth, cycle repair station, and CD rental shop for movies—it became a haven for us. We didn’t need luxury to make memories. The charm of the place lay in its simplicity, where everyone gathered for both deep discussions and light-hearted moments of fun. We shared ideas, crafted plans, and sometimes even plotted harmless pranks on fellow students. It was our unofficial campus headquarters for socializing and connecting.

What makes the BackPost even more special is, Alumni’s years after graduating, return to NIT Rourkela and bring their families there. It’s not the classrooms or labs they rush to show off—it’s the BackPost, where they spent their most memorable, unfiltered moments of college life. Despite its humble appearance, the BackPost holds a wealth of nostalgia for all of us, a reminder that the heart of our college experience was not just in academics but in the bonds we formed and the time we spent together there.

Sahi Dushyant . I am writing ,Mathis comment from Rourkela. Had come for campus placements. You nailed it . Although now backpost is now gone , and new forms of backpost being created by current breed of students. However, your post brought back the memories and it gets more special as I write from Rourkela.
