Navigating the Waters: Gurgaon’s Millennium City Status Tested by Rain Year 2012

I lived in Gurgaon for over 10 years, from 2006 to 2017, and the chaos during the rainy season was a constant problem. Despite being a millennial city, Gurgaon’s drainage system remains flawed to this day, with the city becoming waterlogged every time it rains. In 2012, these clips from Sector 30 and Sector 34 Infocity, capture the aftermath of a downpour in Gurgaon. Chaos erupted in Greenwood City as the area became waterlogged within just two hours. The once calm streets turned into a scene of disorder, with flooded roads and stranded vehicles causing gridlock.

Pedestrians waded through ankle-deep water, visibly frustrated as they struggled to navigate the submerged streets. The situation was worsened by the inadequate drainage infrastructure, leaving residents and commuters to deal with the consequences of the heavy rain. Witnessing the turmoil and inconvenience, I couldn’t help but lament the city’s lack of preparedness for such weather events and the urgent need for measures to address the recurring issue of waterlogging in Greenwood City and beyond.
