Riding the Firefox Colorado: My First High-End MTB Experience Year 2011

Growing up, I was always passionate about mountain biking. My childhood memories are filled with adventures on my Hero Mountain Bike, and during college, those thrilling rides became a part of who I was. But it wasn’t until I moved to Noida that my passion for cycling evolved into something more. In 2008, I had the chance to visit FireFox, a high-end bicycle store in Atta Market, where I saw something that would change my perspective on cycling forever. For the first time, I saw a bike equipped with disc brakes—a new concept for me, even though I was already familiar with shock absorbers on bicycles. As I explored the range of bikes, from MTB to racing models, it was an entirely new experience that sparked my desire to own one of these machines.

During this visit to FireFox, I had the opportunity to ride the Colorado FireFox MTB, and that experience left a lasting impact on me. When I first applied the brakes, I felt an unsettling sense of imbalance, as if I might fall forward. It was an eye-opening moment that made me even more determined to own this bike one day. When I inquired about the price, I found it to be around ₹27,000, a hefty sum at the time, especially considering that for a few thousand more, I could buy a good-quality scooter. But despite the cost, I knew that this bike would one day be mine. Fast forward to 2011, while I was working at Peoplestrong in Gurgaon, I finally made the purchase, and it became my primary mode of transportation to the office—apart from my Bajaj Avenger.

Riding the Firefox Colorado from Sector 15 to Sector 34 in Gurgaon, a distance of 8-10 km, became part of my daily routine. When I first rode it to the office, my friends were so impressed that they became eager to ride it as well. However, the experience wasn’t always as smooth as the ride itself. Despite owning a high-end bicycle, I faced challenges, especially on the road. In those days, people still associated cycling with poverty, and even though I had invested in a top-quality bike, I wasn’t always treated with respect. I was often asked to park my cycle outside designated parking areas in various locations around Gurgaon. But for me, following the crowd has never been my style. I thrive on challenges and pushing boundaries, always ready to take risks and embrace new adventures. These memories of riding my Firefox Colorado are some of the most exhilarating and inspiring moments of my life.
